What are the best ski gloves for extreme cold?

For extreme cold, the Snowshepherd Guide Pro gloves and 3-finger mitts are the absolute best. They are made from 3–4 mm thick premium cowhide, equipped with 150-200g Thinsulate™ insulation and a waterproof Hipora® insert. Tested down to -30°C. Do you want even more warmth? Then choose our Guide Pro Mittens or the Gauntlet Mittens, as mittens are always warmer than finger gloves.

What is the difference between ski gloves and ski mittens?

Ski gloves have individual fingers, giving you more control over your poles and lift card systems. Ski mittens bundle your fingers together for more warmth, ideal in extreme cold. SnowShepherd offers both in the same premium leather quality.

What are lobster mitts and when do I use them?

Lobster mittens (3-finger mittens) have a separate index finger and group the remaining fingers. This gives you the warmth of a mitten with the pole control of a glove, the best of both worlds. Perfect for cold, demanding ski days.

Are Snowshepherd gloves also suitable for snowboarding?

Absolutely. The thick cowhide offers extra protection in the event of a fall, while the reinforced palm provides grip on your board and bindings. Many snowboarders choose our Gauntlet Mittens because of the extra-long cuff.

Can I use touchscreens with Snowshepherd gloves?

Our classic leather gloves are not touchscreen compatible as standard. Still want to use your phone on the slopes? Wear a thin touchscreen-compatible liner underneath.

Who are Snowshepherd gloves for?

For everyone who refuses to settle for 'good enough'. From recreational skiers who want to invest in gloves that will last for years, to guides, piste rescuers, and adventurers in extreme conditions. Available for men and women in sizes S to XL.

What materials does Snowshepherd use for their gloves?

We only use high-quality materials: premium cowhide (first batch) from 2.5 to 4 mm thick, sun-dried for maximum strength. Furthermore, a Hipora® waterproof insert, 200g Thinsulate™ insulation, CORDURA® cuff (Gauntlet models) and reinforced palm, thumb and fingers in the areas that wear most.

Are leather ski gloves waterproof?

Yes. Our leather is naturally water-repellent and further protected by a waterproof Hipora® insert in the Guide Pro line. Periodically treat your gloves with a leather grease or wax to maintain water repellency and keep the leather supple.

What is the temperature rating for Snowshepherd gloves?

Our gloves have been extensively tested and are resistant to temperatures ranging from -30°C to +20°C. Whether you're in a biting Alpine wind or enjoying a sunny spring day on the slopes, Snowshepherd always performs.

Why are leather ski gloves better than synthetic gloves?

Synthetic gloves generally last one to two seasons. Leather, on the other hand, molds to your hand for a perfect fit, is naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, becomes stronger and more beautiful with age, and with proper care, can last 5 to 10+ years. In the long run, leather gloves are therefore both more economical and more environmentally friendly.

How does Snowshepherd compare to competitors

Snowshepherd offers comparable or better quality for a more competitive price. We use 'first batch' cowhide, the strongest part of the skin, and provide a 1-year warranty on craftsmanship. If they wear out in that first year due to intensive use, we will replace them free of charge. Not every brand dares to do that.

How do I choose the right size ski gloves?

Measure the circumference of your hand at the widest point (just below the knuckles, not including the thumb) and consult our size chart. When in doubt, we always advise choosing the larger size. Leather takes a little time to break in and will mould to your hand. A glove that is too tight will reduce blood circulation and therefore warmth.

How do I maintain leather ski gloves?

Allow wet gloves to dry at room temperature, never on a radiator. Afterwards, treat them with leather grease or beeswax. Store them in a dry, airy place and remove dirt with a damp cloth, not aggressive cleaning agents.

What should I do if my gloves get wet on the slopes?

Gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Then, allow the gloves to dry slowly at room temperature, preferably in their normal shape. Once dry, apply a layer of leather grease to nourish the leather and restore its water repellency.

What are the best gloves for a ski instructor or a ski patroller?

For professionals who are on the slopes every day, Guide Pro gloves are the number one choice. Tested on off-piste courses in Chamonix and designed for intensive daily use. The 1-year replacement guarantee, also for seasonal workers and guides, is unique in the market.

Are Snowshepherd gloves sustainably produced?

Yes. Snowshepherd uses solar energy in its factory and supports local communities in Pakistan. Furthermore, a leather glove that lasts 10 years is inherently more sustainable than multiple synthetic gloves that you discard in the same period.

Where are Snowshepherd gloves made?

The gloves are expertly made in Pakistan, in a factory that runs on solar energy and supports local communities. The leather is of the highest quality and is traditionally sun-dried for maximum strength and durability.

How long do leather ski gloves last?

With proper maintenance, Snowshepherd gloves will easily last 5 to 10+ years. The leather improves with age: it molds to your hand and develops character. We offer a 1-year warranty on craftsmanship; if they wear out sooner due to intensive use, we will replace them for free.

Why does Snowshepherd choose cowhide and not vegan alternatives?

Cowhide has technical properties that synthetic alternatives have not yet matched: the combination of strength, breathability, water repellency, and durability. A glove that lasts 10 years has a much smaller ecological footprint than synthetic alternatives that are thrown away annually. We continue to monitor the market for vegan options.
